The deal, in plain language.
TourLab is a platform that tour operators, tourist centers, and attractions use to publish and sell self-guided audio tours. When you buy a tour, you're buying it from that operator. We provide the software and process the payment; they write the tour and stand behind it.
If you buy a tour
Your purchase gives you personal access to that one tour, on the device you bought it on. Access doesn't expire, but it also isn't a licence to redistribute: the narration, text, and photos belong to the operator, and sharing your access link or copying the content isn't permitted.
A tour needs a phone with a browser, and most tours expect location access to follow the route. Stops you've already opened keep working without a signal; parts you haven't reached yet, and the map, need a connection. If that matters for where you're going, load the tour before you set off.
Refunds are the operator's call, since it's their sale. If something is wrong with a tour, contact the operator first. If you can't reach them, contact us and we'll help.
If you publish tours
You keep ownership of everything you upload. You grant us only what we need to run the service: permission to store your content, serve it to your visitors, and generate narration audio from text you provide.
You're responsible for what you publish: that you have the rights to the text, photos, and any audio you upload, that your tours are accurate, and that they don't send people somewhere unsafe or somewhere they aren't allowed to be.
Sales are paid into your own Stripe account. We deduct a platform fee from each sale at the rate agreed with you, and Stripe charges its own processing fee separately. You're responsible for your own tax obligations, and for your own relationship with Stripe, including their terms and any account verification they require.
Narration generation and route generation have monthly allowances, because both call paid third-party services. You'll see your current usage in the admin console, and we'll talk to you before changing an allowance rather than cutting you off.
What we don't promise
We don't currently offer a guaranteed uptime level. We aim to keep the service running and to tell you when something is wrong, but until we've agreed a service level in writing, don't build a commitment to a third party on the assumption of one.
Maps, payments, and generated audio depend on Google, Stripe, and ElevenLabs respectively. If one of them is down, the corresponding part of TourLab will be too.
Ending it
You can stop using TourLab whenever you like, and ask us to delete your content. We may suspend an account that's being used to publish unlawful content, to infringe someone else's rights, or to abuse the generation allowances. We'll tell you why, and give you a chance to put it right unless the situation makes that unreasonable.
If we discontinue the service, we'll give you reasonable notice and a way to export your content.
Changes
If we change these terms in a way that materially affects you, we'll tell you before the change takes effect rather than silently swapping the page.
